Here is our story: It all started in 1971… In Germany!

Thomas’ journey in this trade began in 1971 in Southern Germany, where he did a four year apprenticeship. In 1980, he graduated from the Mastercraftman School in Frankfurt and obtained the highest degree in the tool & die trade, the Meisterbrief. After obtaining his degree, Thomas worked in Switzerland for two years, where he was in charge of the tool room and the apprenticeship training. At the end of 1982, he and his wife Renate decided to move to Canada.

With his extensive experience and passion, Thomas’ vision was to become a turn-key solution for his customers. His passion was so contagious that his son, Alexander (Alex), decided to join the family business in 2000. After graduating, Alex attended the Tool & Die program at BCIT and became Thomas’ right hand in the business.

He gained experience and took on more responsibilities. Furthermore, he worked part-time as an application engineer for Siemens CAD and Cam systems. Alex’s business interests include mould and product design, injection moulding and mould making processes. Being a creative and a problem-solver individual, he is always trying to find a way to improve the processes currently in place.

In 2013, Alex took the lead and became the President of Turnkey while his parents decided to retire and enjoy life.

Turnkey Management Team

Over the years, Thomas and Alex teamed up with a group of qualified and dedicated individuals in order to achieve their vision and goals.

Alex’s wife, Marnie, became a member of the company in 2008. She holds a Bachelor of Human Resources and Labor Relations and a university certificate in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management. In 2012, she decided to work part-time for the business while raising their son Reiken. In October 2015, Marnie and Alex celebrated the arrival of their second baby boy, Markus.

In 2010, Andy Birkinshaw joined Turnkey. With 30 years of experience in tool and die making, Andy serves as the tool room manager. His experience and knowledge of the industry allow us to accept highly complex projects and finish them successfully.

In early January 2016, Matthis Vogel started at Turnkey as a production supervisor. Matthis was born in Germany and decided to move to Canada. His education and training as a process technician for plastics and rubber engineering and as a technical engineer for plastics engineering make him a great addition to our team. After 4 years of employment at Turnkey, Matthis’ dedication to the business led him to take more responsibilities and now he is production manager.
